Final Project
For my final project I chose to embroider an umbrella overflowing with flowers as more flowers fall into the umbrella like rain. I chose to do this because I enjoy embroidering and I want to improve my skill. I started this project by using a "straight stitch" to create my umbrella then I used a " leaf stitch" to create my leaves. Next I created my roses by using the "woven rose" method. Then I created my petals using the "Laisy Daisy" stitch. I really enjoyed this project because I could tell that I had improved in my technique with creating the roses.
Political Issue
For this project I had to pick a political issue to represent in my painting. I choose to represent human trafficking. The woman's white dress & wings represents her innocence and the chains show how she is a modern day slave. I struggled with this painting because I was rushed for time and because I had to keep fixing the wings because I didn't like how they looked. Overall I did like this project and I will probably make adjustments to my painting when I have more freetime.
Culture Project
For this project I chose the Babylonian Empire and their pottery. The Babylonians were famous for their advanced art and architecture. Which included creating pots by using the pinching method then in later years upgraded to a potters wheel. So I created my pot by using the pinch pot technique. When I had my desired shape I added the handles and put my pot in the kiln. Next I added a glaze to my pot and set it back inside of the kiln.
Silk Screen Printing
For this project I created a sketch of what I wanted my print to be then I transferred that sketch to acetate. I but emulsion onto my silk screen and then exposed it with my image. I then used purple ink to create my practice print. I decided that I wanted my print to look cleaner so I used emulsion remover to clean up my screen. Finally I printed my final prints. I actually liked this project and I'm a little proud of how my final prints came out.
Final Project
For my final project, I chose to use oil pastels. I chose the color purple because I knew it would contrast with the red/orange/yellow to my apple. I used yellow and different shades of red to create a sense of texture on my apple to make it look more realistic. I used different shades of purple to make it seem that the apple was lying on a blanket. I'm okay with how my apple came out except that I prefered my practice apple to the one on my final project. I also like how the colors turned out on my background, except in my opinion it looks like the apple is floating on the blanket instead of lying on it.
Digital Art
For our practice for digital art we traced/made Mickey Mouse. Then I sketched what I wanted my project to look like. This digital image represents how isolated we all felt during quarantine. Personally I didn't like this project very much. It was interesting to see how digital art is made but I prefer hands on art. However, I did like challenging myself and I feel that this project has been the most challenging this semester.
Fauvism
For this project I used oil pastels to create an unrealistic image of a woman. I enjoyed this project very much except for when I made the background because I really struggled with it. I had trouble blending the green and yellow colors together but I'm proud on how the hair came out.
charcoal drawing
I started by sketching my drawing out onto my paper before I began using charcoal. Then I outlined my apple and started to add my shading. Finally I began to add shading to the bowl. In the end I think I did pretty good except I could have added more shading to the bowl.
Japanese bookbinding
For this project I started by glueing cardboard to pieces of fabric and then painting two endpages that I later glued to the cardboard/fabric. I then drilled holes into the spine and started to sew the spine and pages together.
